No matter whether the casket is draped in the Union Jack, the Stars and stripes or our own Maple Leaf the soldiers of all NATO allies stand shoulder to shoulder.
NATO Family Flags,
On this another wear red Friday here in Canada I would like to share with you a poem from the front lines. Written by a British Soldier very sad and very true.
When Staff Sergeant Andrew McFarlane heard his eighth comrade had died in 24 hours he decided to put pen to paper.
After almost 27 years in the Territorial Army and three international tours he's grown accustomed to attending vigils to remember the dead - but never so many in such a short period of time.
It took Andrew, who serves with the Adjutant General's Corps, less than an hour to write the six verses that are now circulating across the world after his wife put them on her Facebook page.
Speaking from Camp Bastion before the memorial service on Monday he said: "As you can imagine it's a subdued atmosphere tonight. I've been to vigils before but there are just too many happening at the moment.
Sunset Vigil
The news is spread far and wide
Another comrade has sadly died
A sunset vigil upon the sand
As a soldier leaves this foreign land
We stand alone, and yet as one
In the fading light of a setting sun
We've all gathered to say goodbye
To our fallen comrade who's set to fly
The eulogy's read about their life
Sometimes with words from pals or wife
We all know when the CO's done
What kind of soldier they'd become
The padre then calls us all to pray
The bugler has Last Post to play
The cannon roars and belches flame
We will recall, with pride, their name
A minute's silence stood in place
As tears roll down the hardest face
Deafening silence fills the air
With each of us in personal prayer
Reveille sounds and the parade is done
The hero remembered, forgotten by none
They leave to start the journey back
In a coffin draped in the Union Jack.

I received the following in my e-mail this morning. I found it very interesting, so I decided to post it here.
People our age know it would only be a matter of
time before there was rebuttal over all of the ballyhoo connected to Michael Jackson's demise. Reality sets in a little quicker with us than it does with all of the younger set.
The following letter is well written.
THIS WAS WRITTEN BY A SOLDIER IN IRAQ.
Okay, I need to rant. I was just watching the news, and I caught part of a report on Michael Jackson. As we all know, Jackson died the other day. He was an entertainer who performed for decades. He made millions, he spent millions, and he did a lot of things
that made him a villain to many people. I understand that his death would affect a lot of people, and I respect those people who mourn his death, but that isn't the point of my rant.
Why is it that when ONE man dies, the whole of America loses their minds with grief. When a man dies whose only contribution to the country was to ENTERTAIN people, the American people find the need to flock to a memorial in Hollywood, and even Congress sees the need to hold a "moment of silence" for his passing?
Am I missing something here? ONE man dies, and all of a sudden he's a freaking martyr because he entertained us for a few decades? What about all those SOLDIERS who have died to give us freedom? All those
soldiers who, knowing that they would be asked to fight in a war, still raised their hands and swore to defend the Constitution and the United States of America. Where is their moment of silence? Where are the people flocking to their graves or memorials and mourning over them
because they made the ultimate sacrifice? Why is it when a soldier dies, there are more people saying "good riddance," and "thank God for IEDs?" When did this country become so calloused to the sacrifice of GOOD MEN and WOMEN, that they can arbitrarily blow off
their deaths, and instead, throw themselves into mourning for a "Pop Icon?"
I think that if they are going to hold a moment
of silence IN CONGRESS for Michael Jackson, they need to hold a moment of silence for every service member killed in Iraq and Afghanistan .. They need to PUBLICLY recognize every life that has been lost so that the American people can live their callous little lives in the luxury and freedom that WE, those that
are living and those that have gone on, have provided for them. But wait, that would take too much time, because there have been so many willing to make that sacrifice. After all, we will never make millions of dollars. We will never star in movies, or write hit songs that the world will listen too. We only shed our blood, sweat and tears so that others can enjoy what they have.
Sorry if I have offended, but I needed to say it. Feel free to pass this along if you want.Remember these five words the next time you think of someone who is serving in the military:
"So that others may live"
Isaac

I received the following in an e-mail today. The fact that about 95% of the following I agree with, is the reason I am posting it on my blog. It sure would be nice if all Canadians woke up, took a look around to see what is happening in this country. I Love Canada, but I’m not too pleased with some of the Federal Government’s policies & procedures.
Even though every one that lives in Canada should see this.
The truth is put here for all to see.
I AM CANADIAN
I am in the minority in Calgary , Vancouver , Toronto
and every casino in this country.
I was born in the forties, fifties or sixties, yet I am somehow responsible for some First Nations people being screwed out of their land in the 1700's!
I pay import tax on cars made in Ontario
I am allowed to skydive and smoke, but not allowed to drive without a seat belt.
All the money I make until mid July must go to paying taxes.
I live and work among people who believe Americans are Ignorant....
These same people cannot name this country's new territory.
On April 1st, 1999, the map of Canada changed for the first time in 50 years with the creation of Nunavut Territory .
The Northwest Territories was split and approximately 2 million square kilometers of the central and eastern arctic became ' Nunavut '.
Although I am sometimes forced to live on hamburgers and don't have a pot to piss in,
I sleep well knowing that my taxes helped purchase a nice six figure home in Vancouver for some unskilled refugee.
Although they are unpatriotic and constantly try to separate...
Quebec still provides most of my nation's prime ministers.
95% of my nation's international conflicts are over fish.
I'm supposed to call black people African Canadians,
although I'm sure none of them have ever been to Africa for that matter.
I am being told that paying a 200% tax on alcohol is fair.
I am also being told that the same tax on gasoline is also fair.
Even if I have no idea what happened to that old rifle my
Grandfather gave me when I was 14, I will be considered a criminal if I don't register it.
I am being told that spending $15 billion to promote the French language in the rest of Canada is fair when the province of Quebec doesn't support or recognize the English language.
I am being told that paying $1million for 3 Stripes
('The Voice of Fire' painting in Ottawa )
by the National Art Gallery was a good purchase, even though 99% of this country didn't want it or will ever see it.
When I look at my pension and realize that I take home a third of what I actually make, I say
'Oh well, at least we have better health care than the Americans.'
I must bail out big corporations who drive their business into the ground and say,
'yeah that's ok.'
When they move all their manufacturing plants and jobs to a third world country and say,
'no problem.'
My National Anthem has versions in both official languages.
Canada is the highest taxed nation in North America, the biggest Military buffer for the United States, and the number one destination for fleeing terrorists.
I am not an angry white person.
I am one pissed off taxpayer,
who is broke
I am Canadian !!!

Jaxon & Annie are having a great summer so far. The Karate & Ballet Lessons are finished until the fall, so now they are doing a lot of different activities. They certainly are outdoors kids. They would much rather play outside instead of inside, even if the weather isn’t that great. Here’s just a few photos just to give you an idea of what they are up to.
I don’t know where this water park is, but the kids love it & they spend a lot of time there. When we get pictures like these, it warms our hearts to see the grandkids having so much fun, & being so happy.

A Canadian soldier who was wounded in Afghanistan last month has died of his wounds in a Quebec City hospital, the military said Sunday.
Master Cpl. Charles-Philippe Michaud died Saturday after being wounded last month in a roadside bomb blast southwest of Kandahar city. (DND)
Master Cpl. Charles-Philippe Michaud was injured on June 23 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his dismounted patrol in the Panjwaii district, southwest of Kandahar city, the Canadian Forces said in a statement.
He was evacuated by helicopter to the coalition medical facility at Kandahar Airfield and then moved to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre in Germany.
He arrived in Quebec City on June 28 and succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon. A military spokesman said he never regained consciousness.
Please pray for his family, & pray for & support all our troops.

This is directly from Jack Cafferty’s blog. I’s a very thought provoking question.

Good idea to allow guns in bars?
Posted: 05:00 PM ET
FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:
They didn’t call it the Wild, Wild West for nothing… and in a giant step backwards in time, guns may soon be allowed in Arizona bars. The state Senate has passed a bill that would let people with concealed weapons permits carry a gun into businesses that serve alcohol.
The measure now goes to Republican Governor Jan Brewer — who hasn’t said if she’ll sign it, but is a long-time supporter of gun rights.
Critics say guns and alcohol are a dangerous combination. Really? Some restaurant and bar owners are worried it would jeopardize public safety, increase employer liability and hurt tourism. They think the bill will in essence turn the clock back to the days of the Wild West.
One Democratic lawmaker who voted against the measure says: “We don’t let people drink and drive, why should we let them drink and carry guns?”
But supporters insist they should be able to protect themselves regardless of where they are. One of the bill’s sponsors says the most important thing is that people carrying guns into bars aren’t allowed to drink. Fine, but if the gun is concealed, how do you know who has a weapon, and who doesn’t? And by the time you find out… it might be too late.
The National Rifle Association says 40 states have similar laws and insists it’s just common sense since criminal activity happens everywhere.
Here’s my question to you: Is it a good idea to allow guns in bars?
Interested to know which ones made it on air?
Roy writes:
Uh, no! Alcohol, guns, and men competing for the attention of women, what could possibly go wrong? Anybody who thinks this is a good idea has been standing out in the Arizona sun without a hat for too long!
Randy from Salt Lake City, Utah writes:
Yeah, sure. Instead of drunks getting into brawls with other drunks and then staggering to their trucks to go home and beat their wife (and potentially plow their trucks into a family of four, thus killing them), they’ll just shoot they guy who said the Steelers sucked.
Lynn from Columbia, Missouri writes:
It’s about as good an idea as allowing them in national parks. I think they’re trying to lower the census before 2010.
Guy writes:
Yes. Criminals do not discriminate on where they carry a weapon, most don’t even get a permit. So why should law-abiding citizens, such as those who get a permit, be prevented from protecting themselves?
George writes:
Florida has allowed people to eat and drink in restaurants since 1987 while carrying concealed guns. It has not been an issue for the 575,000 people who have permits in Florida, or the millions of people who come to Florida from the 32 states that have reciprocity for their permits.
Gregory from Miami Beach, Florida writes:
A lot more violence happens in bars than you really know about, not to mention what happens in households when some of the drinkers get home. If you wouldn’t put car keys in a drinker’s hands, then why you put a gun in them?
Sandy from Sunnyvale, California writes:
No, guns should not be allowed in bars with one exception: karaoke bars.
Don from Newtown, Pennsylvania writes:
Jack, Be careful if you order a shot in a Scottsdale watering hole.
This is a good video showing what our troops go through daily in Afghanistan. It shows their bravery & their professionalism.

We lost another of Canada’s finest yesterday in Afghanistan. Cpl. Nick Bulger was killed when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb. Five others were wounded. Cpl. Bulger’s family needs all our prayers now to help them through this difficult time.
Please, continue to pray for & support our troops, as they need all the help they can get. Never forget them.
